Ingredients
  

Brownie Layer
  • 1 box fudge brownie mix (18 oz)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 0.25 cup water
Peanut Butter Mousse
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 8 oz Cool Whip, thawed divided
Chocolate Pudding Layer
  • 2 packages (3.9 oz each) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 4 cups cold milk
Toppings
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips divided
  • 6 Reese's peanut butter cups chopped
  • 0.25 cup chocolate shavings optional, for dark chocolate desserts variation

Equipment

  • 9x13 baking pan for brownies
  • Trifle dish or large glass bowl 4-5 quart capacity
  • Electric mixer hand or stand
  • Spatula for folding and spreading

Method
 

Bake Brownies
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease 9x13 pan. Mix brownie ingredients per box instructions. Bake 25 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely, then cut into 1-inch chunks.
Prepare Mousse and Pudding
  1. Beat peanut butter, cream cheese, and powdered sugar until smooth. Fold in 8 oz Cool Whip. Set aside.
  2. Whisk pudding mixes with milk 2 minutes. Let thicken 5 minutes.
Assemble Trifle
  1. In trifle dish, layer 1/3 brownie chunks, 1/3 mousse, 1/3 pudding, 1/3 chocolate chips. Repeat layers twice.
  2. Top with remaining Cool Whip, chopped peanut butter cups, and shavings. Chill 4+ hours.

Notes

Chill overnight for best flavor. Stores 3 days in fridge. Variations: Use chocolate cake mix for base; white chocolate pudding for white chocolate desserts; dark cocoa for dark chocolate desserts. Per serving estimates.
