Filling
  • 1/2 cup Nutella or hazelnut spread Room temperature for easy spreading
French Toast
  • 8 slices Thick brioche or challah bread About 1-inch thick
  • 4 Large eggs
  • 1 cup Whole milk Or almond milk for dairy-free
  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter Divided for cooking
Serving (optional)
  • Powdered sugar For dusting
  • Maple syrup For drizzling
  • Fresh berries For topping

Method
 

Prepare the filling
  1. Spread 1-2 tablespoons of Nutella on 4 slices of bread. Top with remaining slices to form sandwiches. Press edges gently to seal.
Make the batter
  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.
Cook the French toast
  1. Heat 1 tbsp butter in skillet over medium heat. Dip each sandwich in batter, coating both sides.
  2. Cook 3-4 minutes per side until golden and Nutella is melted. Add more butter as needed.
  3. Keep warm in 200°F oven if making in batches.
Serve
  1. Dust with powdered sugar, drizzle syrup, and top with berries. Serve immediately.

Notes

Nutrition per serving, approximate. Chill assembled sandwiches before cooking to prevent leaks. Customize with banana slices inside for extra flavor.
