Ingredients
  

For the Filling
  • 1 cup Nutella or hazelnut spread Room temperature for easy spreading
For the Bread
  • 8 slices Brioche or challah bread Thick slices, about 1-inch thick
For the Egg Batter
  • 4 Large eggs
  • 1 cup Whole milk Or half-and-half for richer custard
  • 2 tbsp Granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp Ground cinnamon Optional for warmth
For Cooking and Serving
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter Divided, for frying
  • Powdered sugar For dusting
  • Fresh berries or banana slices Optional toppings
  • Maple syrup Optional

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl For egg batter

Method
 

Prepare the Sandwiches
  1. Spread 2-3 tablespoons of Nutella on 4 slices of bread. Top each with another slice to form sandwiches. Press edges gently to seal.
Make the Batter
  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until fully combined and frothy.
Cook the French Toast
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a skillet over medium heat until melted and foaming.
  2. Dip each sandwich into the batter, coating both sides well (about 20 seconds per side). Let excess drip off.
  3. Place in skillet and cook 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp. Add more butter for second batch.
  4. Keep warm in a 200°F oven if cooking in batches.
Serve
  1. Slice sandwiches diagonally. Dust with powdered sugar and top with fruit. Serve immediately with syrup if desired.
